MDF has its pros and cons, long and straight, but very fine dust that lingers in the air and coats your nose hairs producing the brown booger. That one is for my 8" Craftsman, now the other for the 10" Ryobi at my daughter's house, Made a big difference in MDF in dust. It's a Contractor's table saw accessory that gives the saw a bad name in the way of dust collection performance. The strongest drafts were felt at the front and back of the saw where the cabinet met the table and at the angled slot in the front of the cabinet where the lift handle comes through. In fact, I may try affixing the rubber band to the inside of the 4" quick disconnect - if that doesn't interfere with connecting it to the straight, un-tapered, 4" hose to 2" fitting connector I also need to use. This will allow enough air into the left side of the cabinet to not only help cool the motor but also create a left to right draft that will direct airborne dust to the dust collection port.
This will act as a bead of silicone but much less permanent and more easily removed later. 
You could cut a piece of the foam tubing (or other sturdy but flexable material) length wise and the attach a section above and below the axle. In order for table saw dust collection to be effective with a dust collector you need to direct the air movement, not block it off. Nah.
As a production finish/trim carpenter, whom mainly installs MDF and Alder, I tackled this problem a few years ago. Having great air flow down through the insert plate will obviously promote dust to follow gravity into the cabinet and having air flow from the motor door across the cabinet to the dust collection port will create a directional draft for dust to go toward the dust collection port. Funny you should write this. You may also return purchases to a Rockler store near you for store credit. Still collection is only OK. Dust Collection Fitting (item #140259) will work - if you use either a rubber band for a friction fit (if you regularly need to move it to more than one machine), or, with a suitable adhesive (such as E-6000) if you're never going to move it again. Has anyone connected a vac to the rear port in the field on the BoschI constantly have sawdust escaping throught he sides, bottom and top of my Bosch table saw. While I didnt do any measuring of dust before and after I can definitely tell that more dust is being directed down into the cabinet just by making these simple non destructive modifications. This was my first table saw with a cast iron top. As you read above, the dust that churns out of the top of your saw (in the general direction of your face) is a little tougher to catch. Remember that if your saw is a contractor's type (with the motor cantilevered out the back), it can be tricky to close off the opening, so your dust collection may be less than wonderful, but it will be better than none at all. The blade tilt moves the magnet with the slot cut in it by itself. Rockler offers a universal table saw hood that will significantly speed up the process.

Your pipe insulation and magnetic sheets are an awesome idea. Molded using ABS material for rigidity and durability. My miter saw set-up is this: Older Bosch 5412L (laser doesn't work anymore, blade guard needs manually lifted to prevent binding, blade break stop working, but still a beast and cut over 20 miles of trim), mounted to a melamine board, which is mounted to an older Rigid wheeled miter saw stand.

It's a little pricey but, it's QUIET, DURABLE, LIGHT and comes with an awesome hose: does anyone have real world experience with the Bosch bag? Then I sanded on the hole in the plate adapter with my spindle sander until I could persuade/force the funnel adapter into the plate. Table saw has another of the same dust collector, attached to dust port of saw. As far as the expanding foam stuff goes like Bill posted that stuff could work, but boy does it get messy. You can improve the performance of the dust collection if necessary by providing more CFM (cubic feet per minute) on that branch duct. The dust collection tray (which is lets say funnel shaped which is nice is sandwiched between the cabinet and the legs. The Bosch bag works OK. I works great. Shame too as this would have worked so well.

Works well enough, I have a grizzly 0690 and I put 1/4 X3/8 weather stripping around where the door shuts up against. I just got a new table saw and while it does come with a 4 dust collection port its not incredibly optimized for dust collection.
This concept could easily be applied to any miter stand. So, yes, I would recommend this to a fellow woodworker with the appropriate forgoing modifications. I briefly mentioned what I am currently using in todays vlog video. I picked up this technique from watching Ronald Walters on YouTube (video below). Yes. The opening is a tapered opening with an OD of 3-3/4". My portable saw has a 2-1/2" outlet at the back, probably just like yours. To do so I purchased some magnetic printer sheets and closed cell (I think) foam pipe insulation.
I have a small 1 HP single stage and it doesnt do very good.. Having worked in custom cabinet shops with dust collection, I realized I'm essentially doing the same thing, making lots of sawdust, only in a smaller space. With only basic woodworking skills, a tablesaw, and a few simple tools, you can make custom cabinets for your home or shop. This unit is 12x12 is size. Both the left and right side of the cabinet meet the table top with a constant connection all the way across so no modification is needed there. In my opinion he is a fraud. i use a large rigid wet vac recently been using my new festool ct22, but at $5 a bag (and you have to use a bag) i still try and use the rigid for production work. No matter what one uses, because of its design the hose adapter will not stay on. Its still not perfect as I have no over the blade dust collection, and never plan on having any for that matter, but it is much improved. I'm just curious what finish/trim carpenters around the country are using for dust mitigation. Catching sunbeams and putting them to work. The tape seems to be holding a lot better this time. Great help with sealing the saw off. I could now feel a very slight draft. Again Im just using blue painters tape because Its what I had available. Gday, I used the pipe insulation, magnets and for the slots and gaps,cardboard across the bottom opening to seal up my old ryobi.

Just a switch with a couple of cords extending out of it so when I hit the switch it turns on two things at once, like table saw and vac. We proudly stand behind all of our products.
