Ill update this section down the road if I run into any unforeseen durability issues. This category favors packs that can carry more gear, but we preferred the vests built with elastic materials that perform well when close to empty and fit snugly when loaded down. Though most every run we loved the fit and feel of this vest, it doesn't have the same adjustability as many other hydration packs we reviewed, so trying it on for size is a good idea. With all that said, I think Nathan still has some work to do as far as sizing is concerned. The stretchiness was ideal when we packed the vest full of extra layers and nutrition. As I mentioned earlier, the top strap also has a magnet on the right side for securing the hydration bladder tube.
With just the right chafe-free fit and form, it's the perfect race day vest! While the Pinnacle 12L does work with soft flasks, I can definitely tell that its designed to be used with a bladder.
Still, I think the Pinnacle 12L is a solid option for runners with wider chests, and itd definitely be a contender for my go-to pack for longer days if Nathan tightened up the fit a little (or just offered an XXS mens size). We found both of these features worked as advertised, with minimal sloshing from a full reservoir and fluids that stay cooler much longer than traditional non-insulated bladders. Much like the VaporKrar 12L, the soft flask pockets dont have any way to cinch down the top of the pocket, and the pockets themselves seem a little bit loose which allows the soft flasks to bounce around inside the pockets an obnoxious amount. Whether you choose to use soft flasks or the included 1.6L bladder, the pocket design paired with the feature set can comfortably carry enough water and gear for a 100-mile race.
I also miss having the smaller zipper pockets on the top 1/3 of the shoulder straps I know they inhibited breathability a bit, but I also found them much easier to access than the Pinnacles new side pockets.

In the grand scheme of things, the Nathan Pinnacle 12L gets a lot of things right. Just like Santa's pack, we could stuff endless gear and gadgets in the Pinnacle 12. Based on my experience with the pack, I think the Pinnacle 12L is probably best suited for longer runs where you truly need 12L of carrying capacity as Ive said, I think the pack carries best when its fairly full.
While this has never been our favorite system as the vertical rails are hard and can cause pressure alongside the sternum, it is among the easiest to adjust, and the rigid webbing straps work well with the high-stretch material used throughout the rest of the vest. As with any product thats made with extra-light materials, I am a little concerned that the Pinnacle wont last as long as a slightly heavier pack like the Salomon ADV Skin 5.
